First arrived
Belle Dingle’s arrival came as a complete surprise to everyone in Emmerdale, not least her mum, Lisa. Zak’s second wife had no idea she was pregnant and was stunned when, on Christmas Day 1998, she gave birth to her daughter in the Dingles’ stable. Of course, vet Paddy Kirk (who delivered Belle) was equally stunned by the baby’s arrival, but afterwards everyone in the family agreed it was the best present they could ever have been given.

Memorable moments
To the horror of her doting mum and dad, Belle went missing on Christmas Day 2005. She had been at home, being babysat by her Uncle Shadrach, when she was visited by Daz Hopwood and his ferret. Although Daz told her not to, Belle let the ferret out of his cage and in a panic chased him through the fields. Tragically, as Belle frantically ran to get Spike, she fell down a mine shaft. With Daz trying desperately to help her, the two children got trapped and it looked like they would either freeze or drown. Brave Daz managed to keep Belle afloat for hours and they were eventually saved.

About the actress
Eden Taylor-Draper took over the part of Belle Dingle from Emily Mather in 2005. She fought off competition from 30 other girls to take the role.
